Where it all vegan…

Hello! We’re Phil and Mandy, but you can call us Phandy! We are a husband and wife team, and the owners of Tree Hugger: Plant-Based Kitchen. Originally from Kansas City, we got into the food truck business by opening up a Hawaiian shave ice truck out in Los Angeles seven years ago. We fell in love with the food truck life and all it’s crazy, spontaneous, fly by the seat of your pants energy. We decided that we wanted to settle down and buy a house (and not drop half a million dollars to do it). So, we threw our cats and all our belongings into our shave ice truck, and moved on back to good ol’ KC. About five years ago, our compassion for animals drove us to give veganism a try, and now we can’t imagine our lives any other way. We always dreamed of sharing our passion for animals, the environment, and health conscious cuisine, and show you how delicious vegan food really can be.

When the COVID-19 pandemic caused the world to shut down, we lost all our shave ice truck events. We knew we needed a change. So in classic “dive in and figure it out later” fashion, we sold the shave ice truck, and got a fully fledged food truck. That’s when The Tree Hugger Truck was born! After a year and half of serving our vegan street food out of an 10’ x 20’ steel box on wheels outside of the Black Box Theatre in the West Bottoms, it was time to jump into our first brick and mortar! We sold the food truck, and are now the proud owners of Tree Hugger: Plant-Based Kitchen! We continue our mission to change the world, one plate of jackfruit nachos at a time!
